Narrative
Describe in detail what happened including the concern or potential issue, the environment (weather, terrain, fire behavior, etc), and the resulting health issue.
While dispatching for a new wildfire, all radio banks showed link fail and all phones were down. We had no communications with the firefighters on the incident by radio or phone. We did have a helicopter doing bucket work on the fire, but they were flight following local at the time the radios and phones went down.
Immediate Action Taken
Reporting Individual : please describe actions you took to correct or mitigate the unsafe/unhealthful event.
Called USFS radio tech, to inform him. He was able to determine that the USFS network was again offline across the nation which takes our radios and phones offline. Talked with BLM radio tech and he said BLM networks were working over in Craig. Made phone calls via personal cell phones to IC and helicopter manager to advise of radio and phone issue. BLM radio tech answered the radio calls and relayed the information to our dispatch center as some of the resources were beginning to head back to their duty stations. Set up the BLM cellular radio box to regain BLM radio functionality. The networks came back online just before 2000 so we were able to flight follow the helicopter back to the airport and make contact with our firefighters via radio.
