Narrative
Describe in detail what happened including the concern or potential issue, the environment (weather, terrain, fire behavior, etc), and the resulting health issue.
On September 7 and update was pushed by the radio shop which caused the radios to go off-line on the entire Monongahela National Forest. A radio tech was sent out to address the problem and was able to get the North zone radio network up without any problems but the South zone radio network has not been working properly since. When the radio tech left radio traffic to and from dispatch were very quiet and scratchy. After working with the radio shop the scratch this was cleaned up but all transmissions to dispatch and transmissions from dispatch in the field are extremely weak and barely audible. After making this issue known for over 3 weeks this problem still exists as we are entering the heart of our fire season. Also, with the ready is functioning the way they are there is no safety net for anybody working out in the field or on fires on the South zone of the Monongahela National Forest.
Immediate Action Taken
Reporting Individual : please describe actions you took to correct or mitigate the unsafe/unhealthful event.
While working with this issue we are trying to operate in areas that have cell phone service which are extremely minimal on the Monongahela. We have also been very lucky not to have a wildfire during this time of radio outage.
