The issue was first discovered around 8/26. It was noticed in background investigating that the devices were not reaching certain security servers to "allow" devices to operate over the network. This not only affected radios, as mentioned in the SAFENet, this also affected all hardwired clients. If users were utilizing wireless access points those were working as those devices were pointing to another office in the Forest Service network and that site was working and talking correctly with the security server.
Today, on 9/2, USDA Network Operations, USDA Enterprise Network Services, USDA Cybersecurity and Privacy Operations Center, Lumen Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Services Team, and U.S. Forest Service Land Mobile Radio, had a bridge call that lasted ~ an hour and a half. It was determined that resetting the SD-WAN instance was needed to occur to restore services. Once the SD-WAN instance was reset, login to equipment was verified (both network and radio equipment). Dispatch was then asked to conduct radio checks and all checks were successful. It was asked that the LMR tech monitor services the rest of the week and immediately alert if radio traffic drops again.
