USDA Remedy Help Desk Ticket, INC000008901059, came in on 6/12 to the Service Desk. On 6/16 the ticket finally found its way to the USDA Network Services Branch ticket queue. At that point, the Network Services Branch submitted a ticket to Lumen for the point-to-point copper T1 going from the Lolo National Forest SO router to the Powell Ranger District. With some back-and-forth Lumen found the issue was with a local exchange carrier, Blackfoot. Lumen was adamant they could not open a ticket with Blackfoot, and it was on the USDA. After letting them know of the Service Level Agreement between USDA and Lumen they finally got in contact with Blackfoot on 6/30. Blackfoot did not get back into contact with Lumen until the following day on 7/1. Lumen and Blackfoot are currently in the process of testing 35 repeaters and have dispatched out to repeater number 5 as that is where the testing trouble starts. There is still no estimated time of completion as dispatch started this morning on 7/2. With there being 35 repeaters the time to repair may be extensive and is out of our hands here at the USDA Network Services Desk.
Furthermore, Network Services Desk investigated the Powell Ranger District and its process in the USDA One Network migration. This migration would eliminate the need for the Point-to-Point T1 line from the Lolo National Forest SO Router. Currently there is an order in place for the Powell Ranger District, and it was confirmed by the USDA on 6/25/2025 for Low Earth Orbit Satellite Services, StarLink. We have escalated this service with the NRE-FS TMACO, so they may escalate with USDA and Lumen Technologies to complete a survey for best placement for the satellite terminal so we can expedite this site for migration to USDA One Network
