Steps have been taken over the last year to try and pinpoint the source of the interference at the Wofford site. We have identified the interference as a UHF signal entering control point in the area. Last week we received interference sniffing equipment to be used in tracking down this issue. Techs on the Lincoln and Gila have been trained on the use of his equipment and have made several attempts to try and locate the source. The incoming signal is weak and intermittent and as of today we have not had any success in tracking the source down.

The Lincoln LMR Tech as made contact with the local military base in the area and was told that that frequency range is saturated in that this area. This is not good for us. They offered to try and identify the location of that interference. If we cannot resolve the issue with either the Forest Service equipment or through the help of the DOD locals, we’ll have no choice but to incorporate additional filtering through the use of a CTCSS tone on both the transmitters and receivers on the UHF link. If this does not work we’ll either need to contact the FCC to help identify the source or go through our frequency folks here in LMR and possibly move to another frequency.
