NWCG resource standards, will commonly understood and utilized, are not required policy. Utilization of handcrews with fewer than the standard 20 individuals is typical outside of the core fire season, and is often necessary to make resources available during those time periods. The reduction in crew members will have an effect on production rates, and a risk management assessment should be made by every firefighter during every fire assignment.
Colorado DFPC has notified the Rocky Mountain Coordination Center and the affected Tier 3 Interagency Dispatch Centers about this situation that will be in effect for the remainder of this fall into early spring. Sending dispatch centers will be updated on crew status, availability and size, and will provide that information to the receiving dispatch center to ensure the incident is informed on the capabilities of the resource being provided |
