The two SAFENET ID: 20180609-0001 and SAFENET ID: 20180610-0001 are related to the 4300 series router problems. This instance was one the White River NF, that affected communications between the Grand Junction Interagency Dispatch Center and the WRNF SO. The problem was reported Saturday afternoon that they had one way communications on the Castle Peak communications site. Dispatch could transmit, but not receive. While troubleshooting with the State Technicians, I found that audio was getting to the SO, but was not being received at dispatch.

Sunday we got the network TPOC involved because we felt that it could be the router issue. They started testing in Grand Junction to isolate the problem. They also found that the communications for Sunlight Peak (FN,FF,AG) were being affected as well. During testing they suspected it was failing due to the fact the T-1 was generating a lot of errors and planned to ship out a new card.

Monday they were looking at the problem again and after a hard reboot on the router the T-1 stopped erroring out, but the radio communications was still not functioning. Later it was discovered that the communications were actually being dropped by the SO router. Additional network assistance was called to assist in the troubleshooting. Within minutes it was isolated to the problem with the 4300 Series routers.

Lessons that we learned, Not all the network personnel are aware that the problem exists or how to resolve it. If we receive an incident with one-way communications our plan is to contact specific network staff first.

CIO LMR staff has been working with network engineering to resolve problem we 4300 series routers.
