The Lower Kern Canyon is located in an area that continues to have ongoing radio communication issues. The topography of this canyon is narrow with many switch backs. The radio tech has worked on the repeater to better boost its performance and has changed out the transmitting antenna. The Forest Communication Tech has been working on finding locations where additional repeaters can be set up to provide better coverage for the Forest.
The Forest is continuing to work on solving radio communication issues that plague the Forest. Incident personnel need to be diligent when responding to fires that have known communications issues, and base decisions on those knowns. When working in areas with poor reception, using human repeaters to help boost communications to a higher level might be needed in the interim. |
