At approximately 1930 the routers in COIDC were reset. This caused all radio, phone and computer communications to be interrupted. During this time resources were returning from an initial attack fire. If these resources had still been actively engaged in fire fighting or had had an emergency during this time they did not have a way of communicating with dispatch. Any computer maintenance that is going to interrupt communications at a dispatch center should be cleared with the dispatch center prior to conducting maintenance. This outage though short could have had disastrous consequences, this is not the first time CIO maintenance has potentially endangered field personnel. |
